Wise words indeed, which is why this year I'm venturing beyond the Hundred Acre Wood to walk/run 2012 miles and raise £2012 for children’s charity CKDCF.

2012 miles, that’s 5.5 miles per day every day for 366 days (what with 2012 being a leap year). Put another way it’s the equivalent of nipping from London to Naples for a spot of well earned pizza then heading back again.

To run it would take me 12 entire days; to walk it, a whole 28, but with my dodgy knees (I’m Capricorn and Capricorns are renowned for dodgy knees) the answer lies somewhere between the two.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children’s Fund.

CKDCF delivers real life-changing results for children. It was formed in 2002 by musician Francis Dunnery whose music and life story have inspired me to help him raise funds for children's health, wellness and educational needs in and around his hometown of Egremont, Cumbria.

Supporting CKDCF is a chance for me to give something back. Francis' music has helped me appreciate what matters to me, in return I can help with what matters to him.

I am truly grateful for all your support and thank you for your kind donations.

Fundraising Goal: £350

Hey everyone:-) Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those of you that know me it will come as no surprise that I am about to embark on yet another diet, i seem to have spent all my adult life on one diet or another. However, this time its different and I really have to succeed. This time not only am I doing it for me but for the CKDCF. For anyone who doesn't know anything about the charity its aim is to raise funds for the health, wellbeing and education of children in the cumbria area. Its one thats close to my heart and myself and some friends have had some small involvement over the last 5ish years.

I feel really blessed to know everyone involved in this charity and so thats why this time its not 'just another diet'. I need to lose weight for the obvious reasons but in doing so would love to raise plenty of cash for the kids. I'm really hoping that you will all get behind me and support me and the charity. My aim is lose a minimum of 3 stone and i'd like to do this by September next year, just in time for the next CKDCF charity event in October 2012. I know it doesn't sound like an impossible task but for every dieter out there you will know its not the easiest thing to do and keep it off!

Please, please, please give as much or as little as you possibly can, all donations are fab and i'll be eternally grateful! Your sponsorship will keep me inspired and on the right track. I'll do my best to keep you all updated and informed of my progress (or even lack of) and fingers crossed by the deadline next year I'll be looking healthier and we can give the charity some pennies to make a difference.

Thanks again for the taking the time out to read about the challenge and I'm sending you lots of love and big hugs for your support and donations.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you all soooo much x

COAST TO COAST WALK
Fundraising Period: Spring 2011
Fundraising Goal: £2000
Funds Raised : £2120 - Fundraising Complete

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

Having been inspired after watching the TV programme 'Wainwright Walks - Coast To Coast' a year or so ago, I decided that I would like to undertake the challenge to walk the original 190 miles (or to be more accurate, nearly 220 miles) that the great fell walker Alfred Wainwright mapped out across the breadth of England from St.Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire. I will be undertaking the walk with my daughter Clare in May this year and hope to complete the distance in 12 days.

We both thought that it would be a great opportunity to raise some money for a charity and I have chosen CKDCF (www.ckdcf.org) as it was set up by a musician friend of mine, Francis Dunnery(www.francisdunnery.com) to help underprivileged children, appropriately in the Cumbrian Area.

Some of you may not be familiar with The Coast to Coast Walk so I have pasted a link below should you wish to read more:

Thank you again for reading my page and I thank you in anticipation.

Kind regards
Steve

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am going on a diet ('about time too' I hear you say), I have decided to do this for charity to help motivate me. My target islosing 5 stone 6 lbs, 76lbs in old money or 34.5kgs in metric.

I am raising money for the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund which was formed in 2002 with the sole aim of raising funds for children's health, wellness and educational needs in and around the Cumbria area. My link to the charity is my love of Francis Dunnery's music and our yearly trip to the October charity weekend, this is also the deadline for my official weigh in.

My current weight is a whopping 20st 6lbs (gulp), with an aim of achieving 15st 0lbs.

July 29th 2011 - Made it to John O'Groats!

Finally got around to finsihing the last section of the trip, setting off from Kendal on Sunday 24th July. Had great weather and amazing scenery.

Thanks to those that have sponsored me so far - if anyone else would like to do so it would be much appreciated.

Shaun

August 2010 News - well I made it through the hills and dales to Kendal from Leamington Spa via Ashbourne, Buxton, Glossop, Huddersfield, Halifax, Skipton and Settle.

At the last minute a friend of mine, Andrew Morley, decided to join me for this leg of the trip - thanks for the company mate!

We did 228 miles in the end and amazingly managed to stay dry in our flimsy tents despite the heavy rain. Kendal to Edinburgh is the next leg on the agenda.

(05 August 2010) - I'm setting off on the next leg of my trip tomorrow - Leamington Spa to Kendal - about 190 miles.

(10 July 2010)! - Well, I gave it my best shot to complete the journey in one go, but by the time I reached Bristol my right knee was causing me some problems and I knew I would not be able to continue north on it for another five days. As such, the next day I veered east and home-bound through the Cotswolds. I finally arrived back home on the evening of Friday 9th July having covered 326 very hilly miles.

I now plan to rest the knee for a couple of weeks and continue the next stage of the journey to Kendal. I'll keep you posted.

--------------------------------------------------------

I'm attempting to cycle from Land's End to John O Groats (must be a mid-life crisis)....just me, my bike and a tent. I'm setting off from Land's End on Tuesday 6th July.

Cheers,

Shaun

Stewart's 15 Mile Lakeside Trail Run

Fundraising Period: Summer - Fall 2010 - Fundraising Completed
Fundraising Goals: £2,500

Hi and welcome to my CKDCF JustGiving page.

The Charlie & Katherine Dunnery Childrens Foundation (CKDCF) is a registered charity (No.1104342) founded by musician Francis Dunnery to raise money for childrens' health, wellness and educational needs in his native Cumbria.See www.ckdcf.org

After 3 years of attending the CKDCF Charity weekend in Cumbria, and being inspired by the other fundraisers, I felt I should do something more to contribute. So, whilst doing last years Sponsored Walk around Ennerdale Water i thought ''why not run it ?''

I intended to do this with my friend Howie Fiddy (who previously ran a marathon for the CKDCF) and we decided that :-one circuit of the lake at 7.5miles is no real challenge, three laps at 22.5 miles is too much due to the nature of some of the terrain, so two circuits at 15 miles it is !!

Incidentally, dont let Francis tell you that this is 6 miles !!

Unfortunately Howie picked up a foot injury in July that he can't shake off, leaving me to go it alone.

I have always ran, previously to keep up my fitness whilst playing football. I gave up the football two years ago,at the ripe old age of 45 and began concentrating more on the running.

I began increasing my training in June, joined a running club and even bought some lycra !! All was going well until I cracked a rib on holiday in August in Spain, on the banana boat.....

I am only now starting to get the training back on track, and will post some training updates in the next few weeks.

Whilst trying to find the true distance of the lake trail (It varies between 6 and 8.5 miles) google revealed two facts about Ennerdale Water.Firstly, scenes from horror film '28 Days Later' were shot there.Secondly former US President Bill Clinton proposed to his wife, Hilary on the banks of the lake............Lets hope i dont get chased by Zombies or caught short dropping my pants ( for a pee !!)

I hope to see many old friends up in Cumbria. Please sponsor me, and all encouragement on the day will be greatly welcome. If you are one of Francis' many fans around the world who are not able to attend please be as generous as you can. As the great man says........''.I used to be toilet, now i'm living room''.. SORRY..... ''The only thing you get to keep is what you give away''

Cheers

Stewart

Fundraising Goals: £3600

THE STORY SO FAR.

Who am I? For those that don't know me my name is Barry Hewitt, obviously. I'm 51 yrs old (but look 18). Well I looked 18 when I was 18?

What am I doing? I am cycling from West London to Egremont in Cumbria, that's about 360 miles. How am I getting there I hear you ask?On a bike, yes I said a bike. That's one with 2 wheels and pedals... not an engine.

Why am I punishing myself? I am punishing myself to raise much needed funds for the "Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Childrens Fund"... or it could be because I'm mad. What is the charity? What do they do? CKDCF is a registered charity that raises money to fund children's health, wellness and educational needs in Cumbria.Check it out at www.ckdcf.org

What inspired me to do this? I wouldn't say inspired, more like it's cheaper than getting the train. No, seriously, I was listening to Howie Fiddy doing his video blog about his marathon run and I thought why not do something that can make a difference. I can't run anymore, well never could really, so I thought CYCLE...and here I am. I never thought Francis would hold me to it but he has, bloody Catholics.

Training..... I've been assured that the training is the hardest part, I doubt it somehow. As of 10th August 2009 I'm in my 6th week (I think) of proper training and I'm doing about 120 miles a week. That's broken down into three 10 mile time trials a week (time trials are going flat out at top speed over a measured distance) with a 20 mile more leasurely ride sandwiched in between. On Saturday I do a 50 mile ride and about 20 more leasurely miles on Sunday. And if you've ever seen an uranghutan then you'll know what my backside looks and feels like. As of this week I'm upping the Saturday ride by 5 miles every week...that means 55 miles next week, 60 miles the week after and so on until I reach 100 miles a day. Then I will need to be able to do 100 miles on two consecutive days. Bloody hell I'm gonna have a lay down just thinking about it.

Diet.... I've had to change my diet drastically of course. I'm not talking carbs, calories and all that rubbish. I now have 10 halves instead of 5 pints. ho ho bloody ho.

The Ride itself..... The intention is this... day one....100 miles, day two...100 miles, day three...80 miles, day 4...whatever is left, 70/80 miles, days 5, 6,7,8,9 and 10...sleep. The reality may differ somewhat, like this....day one... get train to Carlisle, day two...get train from Carlisle to Egremont days 3 and 4.... pub day 4 evening. Ride to the charity event pretending to be exhausted. only joking.

Barclays Employee Matching Program - CKDCF Charity Walk - October 25th, 2009
Fundraising Period : Summer/Fall 2009 - Fundraising Completed
Fundraising Goal: £750
Note: This is an Employer Matched Funding Program

Calling all the Heroes!

Are you an employee of Barclays? Have you registered for pound for pound matching? If you do work for Barclays, why not register your fundraising efforts for CKDCF?

I have recently raised some much needed cash for the charity and had it matched up to £750.00. The Banks community organisation will allow any employee to do this 3 times a year, if you can get a small collective group of 4 employee's together to raise some cash, each employee can register for pound for pound matching. Potentially your group could raise £3000.00 and the bank would match you contribution with a further £3000.00 and you can do this 3 times a year!!!

If you do work for Barclays I urge you to make the most of this community funding. Brain storm some fabulous far out idea's - zip wire, climb mountains, scale a building! Have fun and make a difference to someone's life, after all, the only thing you get to keep is what you give away.

The charity walk isn't far away, if you haven't yet registered to match your fundraising efforts, do it today. If you don't work for Barclays but have a relative or friend who does, bring them along, get them involved.

Howie Fiddy's Race to Raise Cash - Halstaed Marathon - May 10th, 2009
Fundraising Period : Spring 2009 - Fundraising Completed
Funds Raised : £2800

After reaching his fund raising goals, CKDCF Marathon runner Howie Fiddy offers his heartfelt appreciation to his supporters.

"Through tears of joy (the tears of pain have thankfully now dried up!) I would like to say from the deepest depths of my heart THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who donated their hard-earned money to my marathon cause in aid of the CKDCF. I've said this so many times in the last couple of months, but it truly does warm my heart to know that there are so many of you who found the time, desire, willingness and generosity to give during such difficult financial times.

I'm glad to know that my knackered knees, shot shins and fu......fairly fragile feet all suffered for a fantastic outcome! I agree with Francis that we never thought we'd actually manage to hit our target - £2620 was just an appropriate figure for the marathon mileage - but you blew it right outta the water! The donations page will be open for a couple more months but thanks once again for making this journey such a massive success. No more Lycra for me now."
