Latest News - well I made it through the hills and dales to Kendal from Leamington Spa via Ashbourne, Buxton, Glossop, Huddersfield, Halifax, Skipton and Settle.

At the last minute a friend of mine, Andrew Morley, decided to join me for this leg of the trip - thanks for the company mate!

We did 228 miles in the end and amazingly managed to stay dry in our flimsy tents despite the heavy rain. Kendal to Edinburgh is the next leg on the agenda.

Latest news (05 August 2010) - I'm setting off on the next leg of my trip tomorrow - Leamington Spa to Kendal - about 190 miles.

Latest news (10 July 2010)! - Well, I gave it my best shot to complete the journey in one go, but by the time I reached Bristol my right knee was causing me some problems and I knew I would not be able to continue north on it for another five days. As such, the next day I veered west and home-bound through the Cotswolds. I finally arrived back home on the evening of Friday 9th July having covered 326 very hilly miles.

I now plan to rest the knee for a couple of weeks and continue the next stage of the journey to Kendal. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Shaun

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm attempting to cycle from Land's End to John O Groats (must be a mid-life crisis)....just me, my bike and a tent. I'm setting off from Land's End on Tuesday 6th July.

I hope to raise as much cash as possible for the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund Charity. Have a look at their website at www.ckdcf.org

So please dig deep and donate whatever you can.

Thanks!

Shaun

3 Peaks, 8 Barclays staff, 24 hours, lots of cash!

Fundraising Period: Summer - Fall 2010
Fundraising Goals: £6,000 (£12,000 with Barclays pound for pound matching)

Hi everyone,

Sarah Moran, Michael Denny, Craig Davies, Ciaran Quinn, Kevin Ng, Michael Williams, Matthew Hurst and myself, Dawn Roberts (the group Leader) will be completing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. After weeks of intensive training, we will start our journey on 16th July and complete on 17th July.

The event has been registered with barclays pound for pound matching, for every pound you sponsor us, Barclays will match this, all 8 of us have set up a fund matching, thats 8 opportunites of matching £750.00!!!, what a phenomenal amount of money that would be to help CKDCF keep on helping the people who really need help. We have the potential to raise £6000.00 in sponsorship and get this matched, providing a whopping 12k to the charity.

Please help us to achieve this goal, as Francis said "You will be helping to ease the pain of another human beings difficulties and you are making life a little more bearable for some children....... on some Oncology Ward…….or in some Hospital. Somewhere out there, there is a little flower called 'Happiness' and it has your name on it. God Bless you all and Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Each Teammate will have their own fundraising page.

Hello and Welcome to my CKDCF Slimathon page Thanks for taking the time to visit I decided a couple of weeks ago that I'd reached a time in my life when I need to lose a lot of weight and keep it off! Some of you may know that I have supported the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Childrens Fund (CKDCF) for some time, and taken part in fund raising events including their annual sponsored walk last October. So I have decided to try and raise as much money as I can for this fantastic charlty whilst losing the weight I need to lose.

The charlty was founded in 2002 and is based in the North of England. It is run entirely by volunteers so all the money you give will go directly to deserving childrens causes - For more information on CKDCF and it's work please visit http://www.ckdcf.org/

I weighed myself this morning and I was 17 stone - Thats 238lb! - My aim is to lose at least 3 1/2 stonw ( about 50lb) between now and this years CKDCF fundraising weekend at the end of October when the final weigh in will take place.

Thanks again for visiting my page - I will post regular updates here so please feel free to check back from time to time. Please give as much as you can to this worthy cause, I would be very grateful.

Bye for now.

David

THE STORY SO FAR.

Who am I? For those that don't know me my name is Barry Hewitt, obviously. I'm 51 yrs old (but look 18). Well I looked 18 when I was 18?

What am I doing? I am cycling from West London to Egremont in Cumbria, that's about 360 miles. How am I getting there I hear you ask?On a bike, yes I said a bike. That's one with 2 wheels and pedals... not an engine.

Why am I punishing myself? I am punishing myself to raise much needed funds for the "Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Childrens Fund"... or it could be because I'm mad. What is the charity? What do they do? CKDCF is a registered charity that raises money to fund children's health, wellness and educational needs in Cumbria.Check it out at www.ckdcf.org

What inspired me to do this? I wouldn't say inspired, more like it's cheaper than getting the train. No, seriously, I was listening to Howie Fiddy doing his video blog about his marathon run and I thought why not do something that can make a difference. I can't run anymore, well never could really, so I thought CYCLE...and here I am. I never thought Francis would hold me to it but he has, bloody Catholics.

Training..... I've been assured that the training is the hardest part, I doubt it somehow. As of 10th August 2009 I'm in my 6th week (I think) of proper training and I'm doing about 120 miles a week. That's broken down into three 10 mile time trials a week (time trials are going flat out at top speed over a measured distance) with a 20 mile more leasurely ride sandwiched in between. On Saturday I do a 50 mile ride and about 20 more leasurely miles on Sunday. And if you've ever seen an uranghutan then you'll know what my backside looks and feels like. As of this week I'm upping the Saturday ride by 5 miles every week...that means 55 miles next week, 60 miles the week after and so on until I reach 100 miles a day. Then I will need to be able to do 100 miles on two consecutive days. Bloody hell I'm gonna have a lay down just thinking about it.

Diet.... I've had to change my diet drastically of course. I'm not talking carbs, calories and all that rubbish. I now have 10 halves instead of 5 pints. ho ho bloody ho.

The Ride itself..... The intention is this... day one....100 miles, day two...100 miles, day three...80 miles, day 4...whatever is left, 70/80 miles, days 5, 6,7,8,9 and 10...sleep. The reality may differ somewhat, like this....day one... get train to Carlisle, day two...get train from Carlisle to Egremont days 3 and 4.... pub day 4 evening. Ride to the charity event pretending to be exhausted. only joking.

Barclays Employee Matching Program - CKDCF Charity Walk - October 25th, 2009
Fundraising Period : Summer/Fall 2009 - Fundraising Completed
Fundraising Goal: £750
Note: This is an Employer Matched Funding Program

Calling all the Heroes!

Are you an employee of Barclays? Have you registered for pound for pound matching? If you do work for Barclays, why not register your fundraising efforts for CKDCF?

I have recently raised some much needed cash for the charity and had it matched up to £750.00. The Banks community organisation will allow any employee to do this 3 times a year, if you can get a small collective group of 4 employee's together to raise some cash, each employee can register for pound for pound matching. Potentially your group could raise £3000.00 and the bank would match you contribution with a further £3000.00 and you can do this 3 times a year!!!

If you do work for Barclays I urge you to make the most of this community funding. Brain storm some fabulous far out idea's - zip wire, climb mountains, scale a building! Have fun and make a difference to someone's life, after all, the only thing you get to keep is what you give away.

The charity walk isn't far away, if you haven't yet registered to match your fundraising efforts, do it today. If you don't work for Barclays but have a relative or friend who does, bring them along, get them involved.

Howie Fiddy's Race to Raise Cash - Halstaed Marathon - May 10th, 2009
Fundraising Period : Spring 2009 - Fundraising Completed
Funds Raised : £2800

After reaching his fund raising goals, CKDCF Marathon runner Howie Fiddy offers his heartfelt appreciation to his supporters.

"Through tears of joy (the tears of pain have thankfully now dried up!) I would like to say from the deepest depths of my heart THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who donated their hard-earned money to my marathon cause in aid of the CKDCF. I've said this so many times in the last couple of months, but it truly does warm my heart to know that there are so many of you who found the time, desire, willingness and generosity to give during such difficult financial times.

I'm glad to know that my knackered knees, shot shins and fu......fairly fragile feet all suffered for a fantastic outcome! I agree with Francis that we never thought we'd actually manage to hit our target - £2620 was just an appropriate figure for the marathon mileage - but you blew it right outta the water! The donations page will be open for a couple more months but thanks once again for making this journey such a massive success. No more Lycra for me now."
