March 20, 2009: Two years ago I hosted one of Francis Dunnery’s renowned house concerts and the incredibly emotional experience kick-started a shift in my consciousness, a change which had been heading my way around that time in my life. From then on my attitude to so many things became more positive and less self-centred and ‘giving something back’ is now at the top of my list.
I’m going to be running in the Halstead Marathon in the east of England on May 10th to raise money for the CKDCF and I’m on my worn-out knees begging everyone to find ANY amount of money, big or small, to donate to this incredible charity on behalf of my running efforts. And I also think this is a great opportunity for some of our overseas friends to contribute to the charity who are otherwise unable to attend some of the fantastic money raising events that the CKDCF hosts throughout the year.
I’ve always been a physically active person, but to run a full marathon is really daunting! The training for it has been full-on for the last few months, but I’m a determined person and I’m confident I’ll finish the race even if I have to crawl the last ten miles – which isn’t beyond the realm of possibility!
Thanks in advance to everyone who can manage to donate to this great cause. It makes all of my efforts worthwhile! xxx
May 10, 2009: After reaching his fund raising goals, CKDCF Marathon runner Howie Fiddy offers his heartfelt appreciation to his supporters.
"Through tears of joy (the tears of pain have thankfully now dried up!) I would like to say from the deepest depths of my heart THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who donated their hard-earned money to my marathon cause in aid of the CKDCF.
I've said this so many times in the last couple of months, but it truly does warm my heart to know that there are so many of you who found the time, desire, willingness and generosity to give during such difficult financial times.I'm glad to know that my knackered knees, shot shins and fu......fairly fragile feet all suffered for a fantastic outcome! I agree with Francis that we never thought we'd actually manage to hit our target - £2620 was just
an appropriate figure for the marathon mileage - but you blew it right outta the water! The donations page will be open for a couple more months but thanks once again for making this journey such a massive success. No more Lycra for me now."
