PUPILS at Mayfield School have enjoyed a live music performance from a professional harpist and even had the opportunity to try out a tune for themselves.

Harpist Margaret Knight visited the Whitehaven school on Friday last week to perform for the pupils and staff, and to help them enjoy the benefits that live music can bring.

The visit was made possible thanks to a charitable donation from musician Francis Dunnery.

The Egremont-born star, who now lives in America, handed over £500 to Mayfield School before Christmas. It was money raised through the charity he set up in memory of his parents, the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children’s Fund, during the previous 12 months.

The fund donates money to causes that will help in the health and education of local children and paid for harpist Margaret, from the organisation Music in Hospitals, to visit the school.

Music in Hospitals’ mission is to improve the quality of life of adults and children with all kinds of illness and disability through the joy and therapeutic benefits of live music.

CKDCF raises its money by holding a concert, walk, golf day and auction every year. The charity will hand out £500 every couple of months. To nominate a cause for a future donation visit www.ckdcf.org.
