September 27, 2008: YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK : The CKDCF recently donated £3000 GBP to C.A.D.A.S. (Cumbria Alcohol & Drug Advisory Service).
C.A.D.A.S. is an organization who's primary objective is to "enhance the lives of people in Cumbria through the reduction of harm caused to them by the use or misuse of alcohol and drugs." The CKDCF will fund a pilot project which targets Salterbeck, an area in Workington, Cumbria where unemployment is double the national average, income is lower than average and Job Seekers benefit is claimed twice as much as the national average. Through a program called Straightline (SL) the CKDCF funded project will focus on outreach work with young people, a community based drop in session for drug and alcohol information and structured courses so young people are able to gain a nationally recognized accreditation through the Open College Network. The project officially began on Monday 1st September 2008 and will complete on Monday 31st August 2009. Stay tuned for more news and press articles on this exciting donation.... July, 22, 2008: YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK : On Friday July 18, the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund donated £500 GBP worth of outdoor toys, play-sand etc. to "Open Gates Nursery" in Egremont, Cumbria. Open Gates Nursery provides essential child care services for parents in the Orgill and Smithfield Estates. The aim of the nursery is to serve a social need: low cost, safe and reliable child care for working families. The nursery focuses on basic early developmental skills such as holding a cup and toilet training, skills that are obviously essential for the development of young children. Limited funding has made it difficult for Open Gates to purchase the toys and other supplies needed for important social learning activities such as "playtime". The CKDCF focuses on providing "tangible funds" to organizations in need, ensuring children benefit directly from YOUR donations.
